Major shareholder offers to match new investment
Announced at the AGM on Saturday 12 November 2011 a major shareholder will put £2 into the 76084 restoration fund for every £1 invested by shareholders either in the purchase of new shares or sponsorship of locomotive parts.
This generous offer is only available until the 31 March 2011 and is designed to attract £25,000 from shareholders and the matching £50,000 from the benefactor so that the fund is half way to the total of £150,000 needed to complete the restoration by the end of 2012.
Other avenues of fund raising are being explored by the Board of Directors who hope to announce the results of their efforts in early 2012.

Horwich Apprentice Guest Speaker at AGM
Jack Smith was a young apprentice when the British Railways Standard 4 2-6-0s were being built at the ex-Lancashire and Yorkshire Locomotive Works at Horwich near Bolton. He has fond memories of his times there and is very active in campaigning for what little remains of the once vast Works complex to be kept as part of the towns industrial and railway heritage.
The Annual General Meeting will be held at the usual venue of the Royal York Hotel on Saturday 12th November 2011 commencing at 12:30 hours. Reports have already been circulated but shareholders will hear how the restoration has progressed in leaps and bounds over the past 12 months.
This is your chance to talk to the Board of Directors in person and ask questions of them. More importantly, it is a great opportunity to discover what is planned for the future. 76084 in steam will be a valuable assest to the company. See you on the 12th.
76084 Cab Sides Erected
Most of the work on 76084 has been on the frames and motion with great progress being made in this area. The recently published 76084 News Number 17 available to shareholders has some great black and white images showing the quality of the engineering going into returning our locomotive to running order. These will be uploaded to the 76084 Standard 4 Flickr account in due course.
But now the locomotive is growing UPWARDS with the erection of the cab sides in early August 2010 as shown in the accompanying image a larger version is to be found on Flickr. The rate of restoration is now impressive but as with all steam locomotive projects the pace can only be maintained if there are sufficient funds to finance the work. Our funds are now dwindling and any help form whatever quarter will be much appreciated. Do you think you could subscribe to our project in some way? We'd love to have you on board!

Tender Paint Job has started
Scott Forrest of Forrest Precision Engineering is 76084's first industrial sponsor. Not only is he sponsoring the manufacture of parts at his works in Glasgow but he is also sponsoring craftsmen working on 76084.
The first craftsman to be so sponsored is Kevin Hudspith who is painting the locomotive's tender. It sounds like an easy job but to do it properly it will involve 3 undercoats, 2 top coats, application of BR Emblems and finally a coat of varnish. When this job is complete it will represent a considerable milestone in 76084's restoration.
76084 runs on NYMR
Thanks to the good offices of the North Yorkshire Moor Railway and the hard work of 76084 shareholders especially Roger Norris the NYMR's very own Standard 4 2-6-0 76079 ran for the duration of the Railway's 175th Anniversary Gala as our very own 76084.
The locomotive was very well turned out by the NYMR Motive Power Department and caught the eye of many onlookers. The renumbering was an inspirational move and already a number of images have appeared on the internet. The main reason behind the renumbering was to get publicity shots. This is not the first time 76079 has appeared as 76084 in public. Some years ago Lower Darwen engineman and 76084 shareholder Ray Butcher organised a 24D/10H reunion event at the East Lancashire Railway. For this event 76079 was renumbered 76084 and a 4F was also renumbered. The weather was awful and few decent photos of the renumbered locomotives were obtained.

Roll of Honour reaches 100
The list of sponsored parts has reached over 100 items with the sponsorship of another section of the front tubeplate.
There are still a number of parts that need sponsoring. Each sponsorship brings the completion of 76084 that much closer.
What about 76084?
Work is currently being carried out on three fronts: the tender, the boiler and refitting the motion and lubrication systems to the rolling chassis.
Parts for these 3 work streams are being made at various engineering facilities. The accompanying photograph is of the trial fitting of parts to the motion. You can see other images at the 76084 Standard 4 Flickr account.
The boiler is scheduled to be temporarily placed on the frames late in 2011 to allow pipework to be installed before being lifted off in spring 2012 for hydraulic and steam testing through the summer of 2012 with an anticipated return to steam late in 2012.
